LANSING, MI – DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA

FRIENDSHIP CITY PARTNERSHIP UPDATE

International Schools Exchange Project (ISEP)

Spotlight - $10,000 Computer Lab Campaign

Lansing, MI/Washington, DC: ISEP was established since November 2005, to create peer-to-peer linkages, support distance learning, strengthen ties and develop relationships; the students have progressed from initially exchanging letters in 2006.  Since April 2009, they have participated in online video conferencing demonstrations in order to, communicate directly with their peers, exchange ideas, develop friendships; and promote the idea of integrating and facilitating these kinds of linkages for students within their regular school curriculum.

We are currently in the process of raising $10,000, to a establish a 40 laptop Computer Center with Internet access at Tusiime Primary and Secondary school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.  These students are having technical difficulties participating online due to their lack of Internet connectivity.  For many institutions of learning, the lack of books and other printed materials can be greatly overcome with access to the Internet; especially in a time when we have institutions such as Anaheim University considering a paperless library.  A gift to this project will be used expressly for the purposes of the lab and Internet connectivity 100%.  We want to create this opportunity which will assist Tusiime in multiple ways.  Donations are tax deductible and we will keep all donors informed of our progress.

ISEP is currently partnering with the Rivera Beach Maritime Academy to enhance our program by participating in establishing a Maritime Curriculum model that will offer a – Multiple site, one faculty, virtual education program; in collaboration with a South Florida University Dual-Enrollment program offering Sea and Air: Logistics; Human Resources; Hospitality; Import-Export courses.  “Imagine a B.S. Degree at age 20 or an MBA at 21!  Imagine 72 credit hours earned while attending high school towards becoming an Air/Sea Pilot!  This aggressive program designed for achievers will challenge the students’ intellect and desire to succeed; success in this program will position graduates ahead of their peers in preparation for careers in Air/Sea related business and industry.” Mr. Frank Sampson, Jr. of West Palm Beach, Florida

On Friday, September 25th, ISEP students along with peers in Tanzania, South Africa, Florida, and Lansing, participated in an Internet Radio broadcast with Nesheba of EspiritE Blogcast Radio, listen to the re-broadcast: EspiritE-Blogradio.  Due to technical difficulties our African participants were having problems getting through.  This is a new and innovative idea made totally necessary and possible through the power of technology.  We want to position our students to ride this wave to the future so that they will be ahead of the game.  We will be participating with Nesheba again Friday, October 2, and  October 30, 2009.  Feel free to listen in and to join the conversation at:
