Brand New Me

The Brand New Me Workshops:

Developed and implemented in 1978 by Lee Taylor, Director

The organization was developed to provide positive activities and build personal self-esteem and self-awareness for community youths. It is also a source of youth mentoring and counseling.  Major goals and objectives are to insure equitable education at all levels. BNM is a means to steer young people away from the streets and negative life styles.

Education and information surrounding contributions to the world by Americans of African descent are some vehicles used to inspire students themselves to become achievers and to pursue higher education .

BNM provides Educational Consulting for public, charter and private schools.  Staff In-Service training to promote in-school incentives,  sensitivity training as well as a variety of appropriate methods of discipline. Sensitivity training prepares staff to appreciate cross cultural differences so that they can teach students coming from multiple backgrounds, cultures and economic levels within the same grades.

It can also be used to enlighten parents of a patterns of both negative and positive behavior.  In-service for staff and personal development for students can guide students towards achieving positive goals while encouraging staff educate all youth regardless of their differences or previous environment.

In addition BNM does seminars and displays and provide programs and workshops in the prevention of the use of drugs of any type as well as the use of tobacco.  BNM also encourage students to become young authors and entrepreneurs,  using African Centered materials encourages interest in books and careers at an early age for Black Students.

Community –Global Cultural Connections:

AMD Share materials and artifacts from other cultures and/or countries. AMD will bring in available performing and visual artists to do presentations, workshops and demonstrations where possible.

AMD Provide ceremonial performances for educational, private and public organizations.  We are available for presentations and instructional sessions on specific dances, drumming and ethnic activities.

Dance and drumming are vehicles to connect young people and adults with their roots, to encourage pride and appreciation about the accomplishments of many people and to excite participants to use dance and drumming as a guide to cultural understanding and a release for anger control.

Performing can be used also to encourage and educate youth and to inspire them to reach for some of the goals, and achievements similar to their ancestors. Traveling during performances is an incentive to share global cultures, to appreciate the culture of others while building pride and promoting understanding and self respect.
